El Fenix Cafe

Family Tex-Mex in the heart of Burrow Alley, Abilene

Serving Abilene for generations
Our Story

A Burrow Alley landmark, back home

El Fenix Cafe is a piece of Abilene history — a family-run Tex-Mex spot tucked into Burrow Alley off S. 1st Street that has fed generations of West Texans. The name, the adobe walls, the hand-drawn bird in the sombrero: it's all a love letter to the Texas-Mexican food this town grew up on.

We are not the Dallas El Fenix chain. Same name, different restaurant — independent, Abilene-owned, Burrow Alley only.

Under new ownership and freshly remodeled, we're keeping every bit of the soul that made this place a local institution — slow-cooked fillings, hand-rolled enchiladas, sizzling fajitas, and margaritas poured the way they should be. Family recipes, honest portions, and service that knows your name.

Come for the chile relleno. Stay for the queso. Bring the whole family.
